Atlanta, GA - November 28, 2005 - Don't Miss the Train: Ruby on Rails Bootcamp Returns March 6-10, 2006

The incomparable Marcel Molina, Jr. returns to the Big Nerd Ranch with the second offering of Ruby On Rails Bootcamp, slated for March 6-10, 2006. The first offering sold out almost upon its announcement, leaving many developers hungry for their next opportunity to master Ruby on Rails with one of the industry's leading gurus in Ruby on Rails development. The five-day intensive class navigates students through the challenging world of coding with Ruby to the robust and flexible power of the Rails system. Marcel Molina proves to be the ideal navigator on the journey. His engaging teaching style is backed up by years of honing his talents since its initial public release as a member of the Ruby on Rails core development team. In addition, he is the co-author of Pragmatic Rails Recipes, published by Pragmatic Programmers, and co-founder of Ionist, which provides Ruby on Rails application development, consulting and training.

Students participating in the class should expect to be challenged. The overview of the two systems and their relationship to each other will be fast-paced and comprehensive and some experience in an object-oriented scripting language and HTML is strongly encouraged. Participants wanting a head-start in the Bootcamp are encouraged to download Ruby 1.6.8 from http://rubycentral.com/book. From Day One, Bootcamp participants will immediately begin building a skeleton application in Ruby after an initial overview of Ruby, ActiveRecord, Action Controller and Action View. The next crash course on Rails begins with the life cycle of a request through the Rails framework. Once that basic foundation is built, Molina then frames the rest of the class with these overarching principles:

With these basic ideas providing the rubric under which all other lessons are introduced, students are then submerged in a wave of information including, but not limited to: Agile development methodology, layouts, partials, and views, understanding ERb templating, debugging, testing and prototyping in an interactive console. Students will learn how to maximize Ruby on Rails for building XML outputs, creating sophisticated and rich interfaces, and maintaining tight web-based application security.

Aaron Hillegass, Big Nerd Ranch founder, said, "Every once in a while, a new technology will emerge in the industry that creates a firestorm of interest among developers. Ruby on Rails is one of those firestorms. Word of mouth about its elegant and succinct code, its incredible flexibility and lack of a compile cycle has piqued web developers' interest in Ruby on Rails for their own development projects. Students who attend this class will be blown away by the possibilities inherent in this database-driven web design language and framework. The marriage of Ruby and Rails creates a near perfect solution for people wanting an object-oriented web development environment."
