Veitshöchheim - November 20, 2007 - Leopard goes Europe with Cocoa Bootcamp, February 4-8, 2008
Big Nerd Ranch Europe today announces the first European Cocoa Bootcamp taught on Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) is scheduled for February 4-8, 2008. The intensive five-day class held at the distraction-free setting of Kloster Eberbach near Frankfurt, Germany, is based on the popular book "Cocoa Programming on Mac OS X" and its most up-to-date supplement. Legendary author and instructor Aaron Hillegass features the most in-depth Cocoa training available and uniquely satisfies both the needs of novice Cocoa programmers and those of experienced Cocoa developers seeking a deeper understanding of Cocoa.
Students interested in attending the class should sign up quickly, as most Cocoa Bootcamps had been selling out in the past. Students signing up before December 28, 2007 apply for the early bird fee and save Euro 200!
While students are not required to be familiar with Cocoa or working on Macs, they are expected to have some background in an object-oriented language like Java, C++, Python or Ruby. The class is fast-paced and intense as it traverses a lot of Cocoa territory. The in-depth coverage of fundamentals (including an overview of Objective-C 2.0) to advanced subject areas such as Xcode 3.0, Interface Builder, Core Data, and OpenGL will emerge students fully skilled on the most current and relevant topics on Cocoa programming. After a preliminary crash course in Objective-C, the class moves onto the key competencies required of any Cocoa programmer. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Writing complex applications for Mac OS X 10.5
- Mastering the Objective-C language (including version 2.0)
- Efficiently using Interface Builder and Xcode 3.0
- Clear understanding of the design patterns used in Cocoa
- Using CoreData and Cocoa binding in the creation of sophisticated applications
- Custom drawing and event handling
- Ability to find and understand the online documentation
"Why take Cocoa Bootcamp at the Big Nerd Ranch?" mused Aaron Hillegass, Cocoa Bootcamp instructor. "A Buddhist monk should be kind and patient. Can you teach someone to be kind and patient? I don’t think so. So, to train Buddist monks, they create an environment where the students can find kindness and patience themselves. I can’t make you a great Cocoa programmer, but I can create an environment where you can find the great Cocoa programmer inside yourself. After five days at the Big Nerd Ranch, I believe you will."
