SOMMERHAUSEN, Germany—November 25, 2009—We get you started at Beginning iPhone Bootcamp in Germany, January 23-29, 2010.

Big Nerd Ranch Europe, premier provider of intensive classes for programmers, web developers and system administrators, has a proven track record for delivering state-of-the-art training classes with a focus on excellence. The Beginning iPhone Bootcamp, January 23-29, 2010, is no different, providing intensive, context-laden instruction on iPhone and iPod touch development in just seven days. The class with instructor team of Matthias Fricke and Alexander von Below will be taught in English at the historic monastery "Kloster Eberbach" near Frankfurt, Germany, a location free of distraction.

Class students apply for the early bird fee and save Euro 200 when signing up before December 18, 2009.

The class covers everything a student needs to know to begin developing applications for the iPhone and iPod touch:

The first two days, taught by Matthias Fricke, are devoted entirely to teaching students Objective-C 2. This portion of the class is designed to be accessible to programmers without any experience in C or object-oriented programming. By the end of the two days, students will be fluent in Objective-C and be able to:

  • Understand and work with classes, objects, methods, data types and expressions
  • Use inheritance, take advantage of polymorphism and dynamic typing
  • Use the preprocessor and basic control constructs for looping and decision-making
  • Retain and release objects correctly to prevent memory leaks

Instructor Matthias Fricke has more than 15 years experience in Objective-C programming. He spent more than eight years in the US and worked in the last years at Apple as the Worldwide Training Delivery Manager.

The rest of the week builds on the foundation supplied by the Objective-C instruction and delves deep into iPhone development. The Cocoa touch portion of the class, taught by Alexander von Below, promises to teach students how to write complex applications for the iPhone and iPod. Class topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Mastering Xcode, Interface Builder and the iPhone Simulator
  • Drawing with Core Graphics and animating graphics with Core Animation
  • Using NSURL and NSURLConnection to access Web services and CFNetwork to do socket communications
  • Dealing with orientation and using the Accelerometer for input
  • Integrating the camera, address book, and audio into applications
  • Using Core Location to determine the user location and localizing applications for international use
  • Handling touch and complex multi-touch sequences
  • Setting up remote client/server functionality for the iPhone

iPhone Instructor Alexander von Below has been a Macintosh enthusiast since 1985, and has been writing software for Macs about as long. Currently consulting at a large telecommunication company as a senior iPhone developer, Alex, knows iPhone development inside out from his daily work.

Students attending the class are advised to bring an iPhone or iPod touch and the according USB connection cord to make best use of the instruction.
