SOMMERHAUSEN—February 26, 2010—The original Cocoa I Bootcamp is back in Germany, April 19 - 23, 2010.

Big Nerd Ranch Europe is pleased to announce the next opportunity of learning Mac OS X Programming in the most desired Cocoa training course: Cocoa I Bootcamp with instructor Scott Ritchie. The intensive five-day training provides the most comprehensive training available for Cocoa developers. It will be held at the distraction free environment of Kloster Eberbach, near Frankfurt, Germany, April 19 - 23, 2010.

Students signing up to Cocoa I Bootcamp before March 15, 2010, apply for the early bird price and save Euro 200.

The flagship course of Big Nerd Ranch is based on the popular book "Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X" by Aaron Hillegass, founder of the Big Nerd Ranch, Inc., and will be taught by his colleague and Cocoa veteran Scott Ritchie. Scott has worked as a Systems Engineer and Lead Developer Trainer at NeXT Computer, Inc. in the early nineties, already, teaching Objective-C and Nextstep programming, now known as Cocoa programming. He later worked at Apple, Inc. as a Software Engineer before joining Big Nerd Ranch.

Cocoa Bootcamp requires no previous experience in coding with Cocoa or Objective-C, but students attending the training course should be familiar with an object-oriented language like Java or C++. The class is taught in English on the latest releases of Mac OS X and Xcode with extensive attention given to Core Data.

The class covers a spectrum of topics, from lessons building on Cocoa fundamentals to more advanced topics that create a well-rounded Cocoa programmer. After class, novice students will understand the design patterns used in Cocoa and emerge fully skilled in the ability to develop complex applications for Mac OS X. Key topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Mastering the Objective-C language
  • Using design patterns, like Model-View-Controller, delegation, target/action, categories, and notifications
  • Using Core Data, including advanced features like unsupported data types, inheritance, and validation
  • Mastering Cocoa bindings
  • Making your custom view deal with mouse and keyboard events, drag and drop, images, and the open panel
  • Handling custom drawing, printing and pagination
  • Discovering Nib Files and localization for the global market place
  • Creating graphics, animations, and reusable frameworks
  • Building a first iPhone application
  • ...and many more.
