Like many the world over, the Big Nerd Ranch team has found the deaths of Black and brown people at the hands of the police to be deeply disturbing. The nature of the power imbalance on display has angered and saddened us greatly. It has also led to a lot of self-reflection, discussion and a commitment to be authentically useful.
Big Nerd Ranch unequivocally cares about Black lives universally, and of our BIPOC employees and we have no tolerance for racism.
As a tech company, we understand that our industry as a whole hasn’t been the most welcoming to BIPOC. And while we endeavor at Big Nerd Ranch to be a progressive company with initiatives in place to address diversity, it’s clear that we have work to do as well.
At our core, BNR is a learning organization and to that end, we know that to fully effect change we have to start first with ourselves. Over the past month, we’ve taken a hard look at our own company and processes, found areas for improvement and are actively working to not just solve for today, but for the long-term as well.
In that time we’ve begun to implement changes and improvements to some very fundamental initiatives like inclusivity training and continuous improvement of our hiring and talent attraction process. We’ve also recommitted ourselves to working within our community and fostering opportunities for all who are curious about the tech industry as a whole and BNR specifically.
Above all else, we’re committed to doing our best to ensure that our actions aren’t a moment in time. We know that the changes we desire aren’t simple fixes and we will continue to devote ourselves to bringing them to life. As such, we’ll continue to be as transparent as possible in regards to our actions and results.
